Cassandra's Dream

Woody Allen + Ewan McGregor + Colin Farrell = le film à ne pas rater.

Je sais qu'il est de bon ton de dire que Woody Allen a perdu son mojo depuis quelques années. Mais il fait partie de ces artistes dont j'admire toute l'oeuvre sans distinction, comme Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese ou Ken Loach. C'est ma politique des auteurs à moi.

Dans le cas de son dernier film, Le rêve de Cassandra (Cassandra's Dream en VO), on assiste en outre à un duel d'acteurs au sommet de leur art. L'Ecossais Ewan McGregor est mon chouchou depuis Trainspotting et sa propension à ôter tous ses vêtements, dans The Pillow Book notamment, témoigne d'un dévouement professionnel digne d'admiration.

L'Irlandais Colin Farrell, surtout connu pour ses frasques alcoolisées sur les tournages, m'a étonnée dans Le Nouveau Monde de Terrence Mallick, où il fait preuve d'une sensibilité bien éloignée de son image de bad boy.

Dans Le rêve de Cassandre, ils sont à la hauteur de leur talent, charmeurs et fragiles, un vrai régal. Tant pis si le film lui-même est un peu bavard et légèrement invraisemblable dans son propos.

Woody Allen + Ewan McGregor + Colin Farrell = the must-see film of the moment.

Woody Allen is my favorite director of all times, along with Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese and Ken Loach. I've been a huge fan of Scottish actor Ewan McGregor ever since I saw him in Trainspotting and his tendency to take his clothes off in most of his films, expecially the very sexy Pillow Book, is admirable. I didn't think much of his Irish counterpart Colin Farrell until I saw him in Terrence Mallick's magnificent The New World. They are both subtle actors who can play strong and sensitive characters and it's a treat to have them together in a film.

So it doesn't matter if Cassandra's Dream is lengthy at times and if the plot is a bit hard to believe. It's still a very emotional film noir with two actors at the top of their game.
